Council-Certified Structural Mold Investigator
What is the CSMI certification?
The Certified Structural Mold Investigator (CSMI) is a certification for individuals that are starting their career in mold inspection. This certification is offered by the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) and does not require any field experience. Our company, Indoor Sciences, has the Microbial Investigator Course which will help you prepare for the CSMI certification.
The CSMI is a non-accredited certification and serves as a stepping stone for the CMI and CMC certifications. If you perform mold inspections including inspecting for visible growth, identifying moisture issues, and collecting samples when appropriate, the CSMI is a great certification for you.
What are the CSMI prerequisites?
The only requirement to become a Certified Structural Mold Investigator (CSMI) is current employment in the mold investigation field. If you have a few years of experience in the field, you may want to target the CMI certification which requires 2 years of experience. Or if you have 8 years of experience, you should consider the highest level of mold inspection certification, the CMC.
After taking our Microbial Investigator Course you will need to fill out the CSMI application to schedule the exam. If you have questions about your experience meeting the requirements, we suggest you contact the ACAC at 888-808-8381.
What is the exam like?
The CSMI exam is offered through computerized testing centers found around the world. There is also a newer option to take the exam online with a proctor viewing you through a webcam.
The following are important details related to the CSMI examination:
- All multiple choice questions with four possible answers
- 50 total questions
- Passing grade is 70%
- Duration: 2 hours
- Closed-book exam
