What is the CRMR certification?

The Council-Certified Residential Microbial Remediator (CRMR) is a certification for individuals relatively new to mold remediation. The certification is offered by the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC).  Our company, Indoor Sciences, offers the Microbial Remediator Course which helps prepare students for the CRMR certification.

The CRMR certification is a stepping stone to the higher level designations of CMR and CMRS.

What are the CRMR prerequisites?

The only requirement to become a Certified Residential Microbial Remediator (CRMR) is current employment as a mold remediator.  If you have a few years of experience in the field, you may want to target the CMR certification which requires 2 years of experience. Or if you have 8 years of experience, you should consider the highest level of mold remediation certification, the CMC.

After taking our Microbial Investigator Course you will need to fill out the CRMR application to schedule the exam. If you have questions about your experience meeting the requirements, we suggest you contact the ACAC at 888-808-8381.

What is the exam like?

The CRMR exam is offered through computerized testing centers found around the world. There is also a newer option to take the exam online with a proctor viewing you through a webcam.

The following are important details related to the CRMR examination:

  • All multiple choice questions with four possible answers
  • 50 total questions
  • Passing grade is 70%
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Closed-book exam
